Once any other translations or voices you want are downloaded, reading, Strong's word study, search, notes, bookmarks, reading position, reading plans, verse memory, and read-aloud work without a network. Chat is on-device by default where supported. Downloads, external links, and optional BYOK cloud chat use a network; cloud chat stays off until you configure it and consent.
The King James Version and the World English Bible are built in, so you can read on first launch without a connection. Nineteen more translations in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian download once from the catalog in Library, including the American Standard, Berean Standard, Geneva 1599, Darby, Young's Literal, Douay-Rheims, Lutherbibel 1912, Louis Segond 1910, and Reina-Valera 1909. Every text is public domain or openly licensed; Licenses & attributions names each openly licensed text's license with a link to its terms. Downloads require no Silo Bible account.
The built-in King James Version, plus the downloadable Lutherbibel 1912 and Reina-Valera 1909. Tap a word on iPhone, or click it on the Mac, to open its Strong's entry: the Hebrew or Greek word, transliteration, pronunciation, definition, and KJV usage, with a count of the verses in that translation that use it and the full list on request. Word study is offered only where the word links were checked against the Hebrew and Greek, so the other translations are reading texts; while you read one, a note offers to switch you to a translation that has word study.
Yes. Pick a second installed translation from the reader and the two line up verse by verse. Where one translation merges verses or has no separate verse, its column says so, so the rows stay aligned. Wide Mac windows show two columns; on iPhone and at the largest text sizes, each row stacks the two texts.
Choose a local plan, read the next assignment, and mark it complete. Today shows progress, current streak, the next due reading, and durable completion history. One missed day can be recovered without erasing your progress; the schedule uses your current local day and time zone.
Add a verse from the reader, then review cards due today and grade each Again, Hard, Good, or Easy. A local SM-2-style scheduler chooses the next due day. Cards, prompts, grades, and review history stay on your device.
Choose a voice already on your iPhone or Mac, or download one of three natural English voices once; after that, read-aloud needs no connection. Listen mode keeps the verse being read in large type, with chapter controls and a sleep timer for listening at night. With the system voice, each word lights up as it is spoken. On iPhone, playback also has lock-screen controls.
Bible Chat runs on-device on iPhone 15 Pro or later with iOS 26, and on Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 26, where Apple Intelligence is available. It answers from your installed translations and cites the verses it used; tap a citation to open the passage. If on-device chat is unavailable, Silo Bible shows an explanation and does not automatically send the question to a cloud model. You may separately choose optional BYOK cloud chat after supplying your key and consenting.
On Mac, open More > Cloud inference. On iPhone, open Today > Settings and more > Cloud inference. Cloud chat is off by default. Choose OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or OpenRouter, confirm the consent notice, and save your own API key before selecting the provider. The key is stored in the system Keychain and sent to that provider to authenticate requests. Your question, retrieved scripture passages, any matching Strong's lexicon entries, and answering instructions go directly to it under its privacy and retention policies. The active engine is labeled; select on-device again whenever you want. Optional local Ollama uses only 127.0.0.1:11434 on the same device.
Highlights, notes, bookmarks, reading position, reading plans, completion history, and verse-memory reviews stay in the local study database on your iPhone or Mac. They are kept by verse, so they follow you when you switch translations. Nothing is synced to a Silo server because there is no account or sync service. To keep a copy, use Export Markdown in the Notebook to save your notes and highlights to a file you choose. Optional cloud chat sends the separately disclosed question and scripture context to your chosen provider, not your study database.
Only a generic daily reminder appears. Lock-screen text never includes scripture, a plan title, notes, or reading history. Notifications are optional and can be declined or revoked without disabling the plan.
