The short version

Silo Caption does not upload your media or captions for cloud processing.

This policy covers Silo Caption for Mac. Video, audio, transcripts and caption text are processed on your device. The app has no Silo account, advertising SDK, analytics SDK or Silo cloud inference service. It does not automatically send your projects or app-usage records to Silo Systems. User-approved downloads, Apple framework services and information you choose to send to support are described below.

Local media and projects

Imported media, caption projects, recognition results and downloaded models are held in private app-managed storage inside the Mac app sandbox. Saved translations stay with the local project. Preferences and diagnostic logs also remain local; the app does not automatically upload them to Silo.

Files you export are written to the destination you choose in the macOS save panel. Removing the app bundle may leave sandbox data in place, and exported files remain where you saved them. Back up anything you want to keep before deleting local projects, model files or app data.

The bundled local engine

The Mac app communicates with its bundled engine through a Unix-domain socket in app-controlled container storage. The helper inherits the app sandbox. This is a local process connection, not the fixed TCP listening port described in an earlier version of this policy. The app does not expose an incoming network service for remote clients.

Speech and summarization model downloads

After you approve a model download, the app contacts the model host shown in setup or model settings, including Hugging Face and its download hosts. Those services receive the file request and ordinary network information such as your IP address. The app does not send your video, audio or caption text with the download request. Transcription and summarization use the downloaded models locally. Initial setup requires internet; offline processing depends on the required assets being installed.

Optional Apple Translation

Translation uses Apple's Translation framework and processes the original and translated text on your device. Supported language assets may need an Apple-managed download before use. Language-pair availability depends on macOS and installed assets; offline translation requires those assets to be present.

Apple may collect Translation API usage and performance metrics, including the app identifier and source and target languages. Apple states that these metrics do not include the original or translated content. This is separate from Silo's app-data collection practices. See Apple's TranslationSession documentation.

Permissions and other services

• Files you choose. The app reads selected media for import and writes exports to destinations you select through macOS panels.
• Recording sessions. If you choose to record microphone or system audio, macOS controls the corresponding permissions. These recordings are processed locally. Recording is separate from importing a video for captions.
• Apple services. App Store purchases and updates are handled by Apple. macOS diagnostics and Apple framework services follow Apple's policies and applicable system choices; they are not a Silo analytics service.
• Links and support messages. Your browser or email app handles links you open. If you email support, Silo receives the address, message and any attachments you choose to send so that we can respond. Do not send private footage unless you intentionally want to share it for troubleshooting.

Children's privacy

The app does not create Silo accounts, profile users or target advertising to children. The same local-content processing applies regardless of age. Apple services and external sites remain subject to their own policies and requirements.

Changes

Material changes to the app's data handling will be described on this page and in the relevant release notes. New optional access or downloads must remain visible to the person using the app rather than being silently enabled.
