privacy · deletion · catalogsNo. Exact-duplicate digests, near-match fingerprints, blur scores and screenshot detection all run on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Silo Systems runs no server, there is no account and there is no telemetry. The cleanup makes no network requests on any device, so no photo or thumbnail is sent anywhere. The only exception is optional and Mac only: in Silo Sweep 1.7.1 for Mac, the Semantic image pilot downloads its vision model once after you agree, and sends none of your photos.
No. Silo Sweep groups candidates and waits. You keep or toss each one (swipe on iPhone and iPad, drag or use the arrow keys on the Mac), and each group always keeps at least one photo. Photos you toss go through Apple's own confirmation and then stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days, so you can recover them. On the Mac, files you toss after a catalog scan go to the Trash instead.
Silo Sweep counts screenshots and clearly soft frames so you can see how many there are and, for screenshots, how much space they take. Its review lists are for duplicate groups, bursts, screen recordings and videos of 200 MB or more. A blurry photo that sits in a duplicate group or a burst is reviewed there with the rest of its group.
It reads what the Photos library already keeps on this device and never downloads anything from iCloud itself. If an original is stored only in iCloud, Silo Sweep cannot prove it is an exact copy, so it is never labelled one; at most it joins a near-match group for you to judge. With iCloud Photos turned on, a removal syncs to your other devices the same way a removal in the Photos app does.
On the Mac, yes. Choose File > Open Catalog (or Scan a Lightroom or Capture One catalog on the first screen or in Settings), pick the catalog, then choose Allow Access for each folder it keeps photos in. Silo Sweep asks for one folder at a time, and Cancel skips it. Common camera RAW formats are read. Quit Lightroom Classic or Capture One first: Silo Sweep reads a catalog only while its app is closed. The catalog is opened read-only and never written. Files you toss go to the Trash, and the catalog lists them as missing until you remove them there. iPhone and iPad scan the Photos library only.
No. Silo Sweep is for photos: the Photos library, plus photographer catalogs on the Mac. To find duplicate files in Downloads or other folders on your Mac, use Silo Tidy (ohmslaw.net/apps/silo-tidy).
Yes. Choose See a sample library instead on the first screen. The real scan runs on a small built-in set (a near-match pair, an exact pair, a burst, a screenshot and two videos), so you can try a review without granting access, and nothing in the sample is deleted. Scanning your own photos afterwards does not count the samples.
