Matador (iPhone & iPad) pairs with the free Matador Host app on your Mac. Install the host, open its menu-bar popover to show a pairing QR, scan it in Matador, and approve the device on the Mac. The Mac host is a separate free download (Developer ID / Homebrew), not a separate purchase.

Pairing performs an X25519 key exchange and your Mac must explicitly approve each device before any command runs. Sessions are sealed with a per-pairing key, so an unapproved device can't issue commands. The QR is the out-of-band trust anchor — scanning the code from your own Mac is what authenticates it.

Yes. Matadoor connects over iroh QUIC, encrypted end to end: device to device whenever a direct path exists, on the same network or across the internet, and through a relay when it does not. By default Matadoor Host uses n0's public relays and publishes your Mac's address to n0's discovery service; both can see endpoint ids and IP addresses but cannot decrypt your session. In Matadoor Host you can pin a relay you run instead, which removes all n0 contact, or choose Direct only, which uses no relay but needs a direct route to your Mac, usually the same network.

On your Mac, as you. Matador relays your input and the output over the encrypted session — the terminals and agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor) execute locally on your machine. Matador has no servers and makes no cloud LLM calls of its own.
