Help, with chance kept honest.

A granular instrument should explain what moves, why it repeats, and where your audio stays.

Why is the Demo Loop silent after launch?

That is intentional. A fresh install loads the bundled 120 BPM Demo Loop so the Terrain is ready, but Ohms Terrain never auto-plays. Drag a cloud halo, tap empty terrain to create a cloud, tap the sample Play control, or tap Run when you are ready to hear sound.

What is the difference between a node and a cloud?

The small fixed numbered orbs are the actual sample slices used as Markov nodes, and the weighted arcs connect those exact orbs. The larger translucent halos are independent grain clouds. You can create, drag, pinch, throw, lock, or delete up to eight clouds in the standalone app.

Why do I get the same sequence twice?

By design. Transport starts from the fixed OHMSLOOM seed, so the same state produces the same decisions. Reweave randomizes the transition map without changing that seed. Runtime snapshots recall a state only during the current run; export a captured take as MIDI or WAV when you want a durable file.

Do recorded cloud motions survive after I close the app?

Yes, when you save the session as a .ohmsterrain project. Motion REC, PLAY, and CLEAR remain live performance tools in a never-saved session, so that unsaved loop lasts only for the current run. Saving the project embeds the motion loop with its exact audio and other working state.

How do portable projects work?

Choose Save As from the document menu on iPad or File menu on Mac. Ohms Terrain writes one .ohmsterrain directory package containing the exact audio and working state. The same package opens on Mac or iPad; missing-media repair, recents, transactional saving, and a two-slot local crash-recovery store protect the current session.

Why is a Drone Horizon ratio unavailable?

Drone Horizon allows 4×–32× stretch but caps output at 180 seconds. The source-duration limit therefore depends on the chosen ratio. The app explains the valid duration before rendering, and the offline render remains cancellable.

Why does the app ask for microphone access?

Only for optional recording and sound-on-sound overdub in the standalone app. Record first opens a confirmation; permission and capture begin only after you confirm. When capture stops, the new audio remains staged until you choose Use Recording, Use & Layer, or Keep Current. Denying permission leaves file import, Terrain performance, sequencing, MIDI, stretch, and AUv3 use available.

Can a recording replace my loaded sample by accident?

No. A completed mic, overdub, or optional Mac system-audio capture is a staged candidate. The current sample stays active until you explicitly choose Use Recording or Use & Layer. Keep Current discards the candidate, and a failed decode leaves the current sample playable.

How do System, Light, and Dark appearance work?

Open Settings and choose System, Light, or Dark. The waveform, ridges, weighted routes, nodes, playhead, clouds, and controls adapt together. Appearance does not change audio or deterministic state. The AUv3 follows its host or system appearance.

Can the AUv3 process host audio?

No. Ohms Terrain AUv3 is an output-only aumu instrument. It generates audio in compatible Mac and iPad hosts, supports up to four clouds, and has no host-input bus, microphone path, or system-capture path. Insert it as an instrument, not an effect.

How do I use the AUv3 travel, Morph, and effects controls?

Load a sample in the standalone app and choose Sync AUv3, then tap ? in the custom plug-in view for its guide. Weave follows weighted paths, Pulse follows pattern steps, Interlock lets chance fill pattern rests, and Drift uses seeded uniform chance; Pulse and Interlock sound the same when the synced pattern has no rests. Morph becomes available after you bank two snapshot columns in the standalone app and sync again. Tap Filter, Delay, or Reverb to open its power switch and full sound controls.

What does Ohms Terrain cost?

A one-time $29.99 purchase on the App Store. There is no subscription and no in-app purchase.
