Proofreading runs entirely on your Mac: Apple's own spelling and grammar engine plus deterministic writing rules — their/there, could of, repeated words, a/an agreement, capitalisation, spacing. Overlapping corrections are resolved before anything is applied, so your text is never scrambled.
A diff, not a mystery.
A word-level diff shows additions in green and deletions struck through in red, with the reason for every issue. Nothing is applied behind your back — you press Copy Corrected, then paste where you want it.
It reads only what you give it.
No keyboard hook, no Accessibility permission, no account, no telemetry. The app touches the clipboard only when you invoke it. Your writing history is a single local file you can search, prune, or clear.
Copy any text, press Option-W: the floating panel opens pre-filled from your clipboard, ready to proofread and refine.
Word count, sentence count, reading time, and Flesch-Kincaid grade — live as you type and before/after every run.
Proofread is always available and always offline. Executive, Concise, Academic, and Friendly tone rewrites run on Apple Intelligence (macOS 26+) or a provider you connect with your own key.
