On Mac, optional Kokoro and Gemma model downloads go directly to a pinned Hugging Face revision after separate consent; the host receives ordinary request metadata such as your IP address, but no document or prompt content.
The current App Store download accepts PDF, EPUB, HTML, plain text, images, scans, and saved articles. It uses Apple Vision OCR for image pages, local full-text search, Apple system voices, and an optional Kokoro voice on Mac.
Version 2.0 is in preparation and not included in the current download. It adds RTF, DOCX, PPTX, text-bearing DAISY, clipboard and Files-provider intake, plus MP3, M4A, M4B, and other system-supported audio. Audio-only or synchronized DAISY packages are not supported in 2.0.
Yes in version 2.0. Imported original audio keeps an exact listening position across launches. It can continue in the background, respond to lock-screen and headset controls on iPhone and iPad, and resume from the library without changing the source file.
Apple system voices work without a Silo model download. Version 2.0 bundles Kokoro on iPhone and iPad; on Mac, Kokoro remains a separate optional, consented download with its exact revision, size, license, and device fit disclosed before any network request.
The current download exports native AAC M4A. Version 2.0 adds per-chapter M4A and a single M4B assembled with cover art, audiobook metadata, and native timed chapter markers. It does not claim MP3 export or fabricate word-level read-along timing.
Silo Read retrieves local FTS5 passages and validates document, chapter, page, and sentence references after generation. On supported Apple devices it can use Apple's on-device Foundation Models; on Mac an optional pinned Gemma model is available. If the evidence or provider is insufficient, the app says so instead of inventing an answer.
Silo Read is one $49.99 paid-up-front universal purchase for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. There is no subscription or in-app purchase. It requires macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon or iOS/iPadOS 17+. Optional Mac Gemma tasks require at least 12 GB unified memory, with 16 GB recommended.
