A reader, batch OCR workstation, and audiobook generator that never uploads. Here's how to get help with it.

direct · no ticket queueEmail us about anything — a bug, a document that read incorrectly, or a feature request. Because Silo Read runs entirely on your Mac, please don't attach the source document in your message; a short description is usually enough for us to help.

privacy · formats · voicesNo. Text-to-speech, OCR, table extraction, and MP3 export all run on your Mac. There is no cloud reader service, no account, and no telemetry. The optional Kokoro voice and Gemma chapter-recap models each download once with your consent from public open-weights mirrors and then run fully offline; the app is fully functional without either.
PDFs, EPUBs, articles, plain text, and images. Silo Read watches folders you pick and can run batch OCR pipelines on scanned documents — with automatic file naming — so an inbox of receipts or archived scans becomes searchable, selectable text without a round trip to a cloud OCR API.
The optional Kokoro neural voice (about 327 MB) produces a natural, warm read that's meant for long-form listening — audiobooks, articles, contracts. Apple's system voices remain available and require no download. Voice choice is per-document and can be changed mid-read.
Yes. Any document can be exported to a full MP3 with custom ID3 tags (title, artist, album, cover art) and dropped into your podcast player or car stereo. Export runs locally — the resulting file is written straight to a folder you pick.
Only for the optional first-run downloads (the Kokoro voice, and Gemma if you want chapter recaps). Everything else — reading, OCR, table extraction, MP3 export — runs entirely offline once the app is installed.
An Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Chapter recaps need extra free space for the Gemma download (about 3.6 GB); you can skip it and every other feature still works.
Silo Read is a one-time purchase of $29.99 on the Mac App Store. No subscription, no per-page metering, no in-app purchases.
