Recognize scans on the device, search every sentence you have imported, and listen with the current sentence highlighted. Your library stays yours.
Import, OCR, search, narration, chapter rendering, and M4B assembly run on your device, and Silo Systems receives nothing you import. On Mac, the reading engine runs inside the app's own sandbox and talks to the window over a local socket; Silo Read has no permission to accept incoming network connections. The network is used only for optional voice or model downloads that state their size before you approve them, and for links you choose to open.

Import PDF, EPUB, DOCX, PPTX, RTF, saved web pages, plain text, text-bearing DAISY books, and photos or scans of printed pages. Each sentence is highlighted as it is spoken, with 0.5x to 3x speed, a sleep timer, and your place saved across launches.
Repair and search scans.
Scanned pages are recognized on the device after each page's language is detected. Every page carries a confidence score, and on Mac the low-confidence queue lets you re-run recognition on just the pages that need it. Search covers every sentence you have imported, scans included, with each match shown in context.
Start without a download.
Apple system voices start reading immediately, and reading, OCR, and search need no download. The recommended neural reading voice is included on iPhone and iPad and is a one-time 336 MB download on Mac, fetched only after you approve it. Neural voices speak English; other languages read with Apple system voices.
Export local audio.
Render a whole document or a single chapter to AAC M4A, saved where you choose, or export the document text as Markdown or plain text. Progress is real, and a cancelled or failed export stays visible instead of being reported as finished.
Read your way.
Choose the typeface, a text size from 14 to 32, line spacing, letter spacing, and page width, or dim everything except the sentence being read. Each document remembers its own voice and speed.
Teach it a name once.
On Mac, the pronunciation dictionary learns how to say a name or term once and applies it everywhere it appears, so a character or a technical word sounds the same in every chapter.

Build native M4B projects.
The imported original stays untouched while chapter copies are renamed, split, merged, reordered, included, or skipped. Render one chapter, retry one that failed, re-render only what changed, then assemble one M4B with cover art and native timed chapters.

Collections, filters, bookmarks, highlights, and notes keep documents and audiobooks in one durable local library.
Ask with citations.
Ask across one book or the whole library. Answers are built from local passages and carry validated document, chapter, page, and sentence references. Without a local text model, or with too little evidence, you see the evidence itself, never an invented answer.
Transform copies, not originals.
Clean up OCR text without any model. With a local text model available, make shortened, simplified, summarized, enriched, or custom-prompt versions of a chapter while the imported source stays unchanged and visible.
Control playback everywhere.
On iPhone and iPad, reading and audiobooks continue in the background with lock-screen and headset controls. On Mac, playback keeps going after the window closes. Shortcuts can continue or pause reading, search the archive, or open the audiobook studio.
Personal voice.

Silo Read plays personal voices; it does not make them. Create a voice in Silo Clone (coming soon, macOS 26), export it as a .silovoice file, then choose My Voices, Import from Silo Clone in the voice picker. After an optional 3.2 GB voice-engine download, it narrates documents, previews, and audiobook exports, entirely on your Mac. A file saved without Silo Clone's rights confirmation is refused, and Silo Read never records audio or asks for the microphone. Until Silo Clone is on the App Store, there is no .silovoice file to import.
One purchase opens Silo Read on your Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Nothing is sold inside the app, and there is no subscription or account.
