The short answers.
canvas · Orbit · capture · MIDI · AUv3No. Decoding, waveform analysis, granular playback, slicing, capture, and Sample Brain search run locally. Ohms Sample has no account, analytics, advertising, telemetry, or cloud audio service.
In Take on the Mac standalone app, choose Sample Anything or press Option-Shift-S, confirm the action, and grant Screen & System Audio Recording if asked. Freeze Capture stages up to the last 60 seconds beside the current sample. Choose Use Recording to load it or Keep Current to discard it; freezing never replaces the loaded sample by itself.
Load a sample, then drag a numbered vertical marker on the waveform. The 16 pads update immediately. Pad playback is non-destructive and never edits the source file.
Scroll to Sample Canvas. Use the zoom controls or pinch from 1× to 8×, drag the range handles, then choose Cut Range, Keep Range, or Reverse Range. Stretch presets render from that working edit. Restore Source returns to the untouched imported audio; no edit overwrites your source file.
Orbit is the visible weighted route map. Reweave changes those routes and immediately redraws the circle. Pulse is the 1–64 step lane with per-step openness. Mutation gives each slice weighted stutter, reverse, speed, and scratch gestures. The same state and seed produce repeatable choices.
On Mac, A–P play pads whenever Sample Brain search is not focused. Click or tab into Search when you want to type; leave the field to return the keys to the instrument. Generic MIDI controllers can also use notes 36–51 or 60–75 for pads and 52–55 for the four triggers.
Not by itself. Mic recording can only be armed in Take and asks for confirmation first. When recording stops, it appears as a staged candidate. Use Recording deliberately replaces the working sample; Keep Current discards the candidate. Failed capture or decoding also preserves what was loaded.
Choose Add sample folder. Ohms Sample reads audio headers locally, indexes filenames and folders for search, and displays measured format and duration. Unchanged files are skipped on later scans. Type ordinary words in the search field; raw search operators are never passed to SQLite.
Load and shape a sample in the standalone app, choose Sync AUv3, then insert Ohms Sample as an instrument in a compatible host. The generative engine and insert FX expose 23 automatable parameters and each plug-in instance keeps its own sample and host-saved state. The extension has no microphone, system-capture, or host-input path.
Yes. Open Settings and choose System, Light, or Dark. Appearance changes the adaptive Silo palette only; it does not alter audio, sample edits, transport, or saved engine state.
