slices · recipes · Takes · capture · AUv3No. Decoding, slicing, playback, capture, and Sample Brain search run locally. Ohms Sample has no account, analytics, advertising, telemetry, or cloud audio service.
An original two-bar drum break that ships inside the app. It loads whenever no other sample is open, already sliced at its hits, so you can tap the pads, tune slices, and try choke groups before you import anything. It never starts playback on its own.
Load a sample, then drag a numbered vertical marker on the waveform; it snaps to a nearby zero-crossing. The 16 pads update immediately. Detect places markers at the transients again, and Equal spaces them evenly. Pad playback is non-destructive and never edits the source file.
Choose Show inspector at the right of the transport bar, then a slice tab such as Slice 01, and set its Choke group to Group 1 through Group 6. Slices in the same group stop each other, so an open hat stops when the closed hat plays. None leaves a slice free to ring.
Scroll to Sample Canvas. Use the zoom controls or pinch from 1× to 8×, drag the range handles, then choose Cut range, Keep range, or Reverse range. Time stretch presets from 50% to 200% keep the pitch and render from that working edit. Restore source returns to the untouched imported audio; no edit overwrites your source file.
A recipe saves the whole setup (slice positions, triggers, routes, effects, grain, and per-slice settings) without any audio. Open the recipe library (Option-Command-R on Mac), type a name, and choose Save current. Select a recipe and choose Apply to current sample to use it on another sample in one undoable step. The library keeps up to 256 recipes, and Import and Export move them as .ohmsrecipe files.
Orbit is the visible map of weighted routes between slices. Tap a pattern preset (star, Fibonacci, pendulum, spiral, or a Euclidean rhythm) or choose Reweave to change the routes, and the circle redraws immediately. Weave, Pulse, Interlock, and Drift are the four playback paths. Pulse is a lane of 1 to 64 steps with per-step openness. Mutation gives each slice weighted stutter, reverse, speed, and scratch gestures. The same state produces repeatable choices.
Open Take and choose Catch with 1, 2, 4, or 8 bars. A caught Take replays exactly what played. Choose MIDI to save it as a Standard MIDI File for your DAW, WAV to bounce it to audio, or Resample to make it the working sample. Export WAV saves the edited sample itself.
On Mac, keys A to P play pads whenever Sample Brain search is not focused. Click or tab into Search when you want to type; leave the field to return the keys to the instrument. Generic MIDI controllers can also use notes 36 to 51 or 60 to 75 for pads and 52 to 55 for the four triggers.
In Take on the Mac standalone app, choose Sample Anything, confirm the action, and grant Screen & System Audio Recording if asked. In version 1.6.2, Option-Shift-S also starts a capture from any app while Ohms Sample is running, without opening Take or showing that confirmation; macOS still requires the Screen & System Audio Recording permission, and pressing Option-Shift-S again freezes the capture. Only audio is used, never screen frames. Freeze capture stages up to the last 60 seconds beside the current sample. Choose Use Recording to load it or Keep Current to discard it; freezing never replaces the loaded sample by itself.
Not by itself. Mic recording can only be armed in Take and asks for confirmation first. When recording stops, it appears as a staged candidate. Use Recording deliberately replaces the working sample; Keep Current discards the candidate. Failed capture or decoding also preserves what was loaded.
Choose Add sample folder. Ohms Sample reads audio headers locally, indexes filenames and folders for search, and displays measured format and duration. Unchanged files are skipped on later scans. Type ordinary words in the search field; raw search operators are never passed to SQLite.
Load and shape a sample in the standalone app, choose Sync AUv3, then insert Ohms Sample as an instrument in a compatible host. The full engine and insert effects expose 24 automatable parameters, with eight factory presets. Each plug-in instance keeps its own sample and host-saved state and can follow host tempo. The extension has no microphone, system-capture, or host-input path.
Yes. Open Settings and choose System, Light, or Dark. Appearance changes the adaptive Silo palette only; it does not alter audio, sample edits, transport, or saved engine state.
